Now in Production, Second Season to Include 24 New Half-Hour Episodes and a Special to Help Boost Kids’ Critical Thinking Skills

Philadelphia, PA – May 27, 2026Mighty Picnic, creator and producer of the Emmy®-nominated series LYLA IN THE LOOP, has received the greenlight from PBS KIDS for a second season. Now in production and slated to premiere in 2027, Season 2 will include 24 half-hour episodes and a special episode about a Loops family reunion, and new digital games. LYLA IN THE LOOP, co-produced by Pipeline Studios, aims to reinforce kids’ critical and computational thinking skills and empower them to become creative and strategic problem-solvers.

“We couldn’t be more excited to bring another season of LYLA IN THE LOOP to PBS KIDS!,” said Series Creator and Showrunner Dave Peth. “We’re humbled by the ways that Lyla, Stu, and the whole Loops crew have authentically connected with kids and their grownups. We can’t wait to tell more stories that empower kids to tackle challenges with creativity and joy. Also, thank you for reading this press release even though you didn’t have to.”

“We’re incredibly proud to continue expanding the world of LYLA IN THE LOOP with our amazing partners at PBS KIDS and Mighty Picnic,” said Luis Lopez, Executive Producer, Pipeline Studios.

Season 2 continues telling stories about kid-relatable events like trick-or-treating at Halloween, losing a tooth, and learning to ice skate, all through a computational thinking lens. Additionally, some stories will focus on AI-literacy skills, helping kids and parents think critically about the use of AI technology in the world around them. The season also introduces new characters, like Lyla's grandparents, and explores the family’s heritage at a reunion on the Loops’ family farm.

LYLA IN THE LOOP, aimed at children ages 4-8, follows Lyla Loops, a dynamic 7-year-old girl living in a big city with her loving family and fantastical blue sidekick Stu as they run their family restaurant and contribute to their community. With Stu’s help, Lyla and her family use imaginative problem-solving and computational thinking skills to tackle everyday challenges. Since its premiere, LYLA IN THE LOOP has had more than 345 million streams across PBS KIDS video platforms and 110 million gameplays on pbskids.org and the PBS KIDS Games App*.

“LYLA IN THE LOOP has become a favorite among our audience for its creative storytelling, innovative curriculum, close-knit group of family and friends, and of course, the fantastical Stu,” said Sara DeWitt, Senior Vice President and General Manager, PBS KIDS and Education. “It’s now more important than ever to continue bringing safe, high-quality children’s media to kids across the country, and we’re thrilled to be able to do that with this fun, educational series.”
